The Federal Commercial Registry Office (FCRO) is responsible for the supervision of the commercial register in the cantons on behalf of the Federal Department of Justice and Police. It examines the legality of the entries and, after their approval, forwards them to the Swiss Official Gazette of Commerce for publication. It may issue directives to the cantonal commercial registry authorities.

The commercial register is organised in a decentralised manner in Switzerland. The cantons are primarily responsible for keeping it. In some cantons, the commercial register can also be kept on a district basis. There are currently 28 commercial registry offices, which are available to provide further information.
